To each and every one of you who joined us at the Chili Cook-off in Tustin this past Sunday, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you. Your presence and enthusiasm made our launch event a resounding success. The response was incredible — our booth was bustling with taste testers and curious individuals eager to "Find their perfect number." I plan to share some of the most memorable encounters via TikTok and Instagram in the next few days and weeks.
I am also thrilled to announce that we generated well over $3,000 in sales, which will benefit The Hailey Mayz Foundation and the aMAYZing Kids Pediatric Therapy Clinic, providing occupational, speech, and physical therapy to needy children.
Witnessing people engage with SpiceQuest for the first time was a truly humbling experience for me. The joy on their faces as they explored our grinders, tasted the spices, and embraced the world of capsaicin left me feeling deeply grateful and proud. It was a feeling akin to when I watched my daughter take her first step or my son ride a bike without training wheels for the first time. I am so grateful to each of you for being a part of this journey.
The event also taught me so much, and I'd like to share a few key insights:
- Customization matters. Everyone loved the choice of kits and chili pepper varietals and wanted us to make the kits even more customizable. Based on this feedback, we’ve made it possible to further personalize the SpiceQuest kits on the website. The Pro Kit includes all 10 spice levels, while the Classic (5 grinders) and Junior (3 grinders) Kits offer a selection of 4 carefully curated combinations each. If you want to customize things even further, just write to me.
- Organic is important. People love that we offer 100% organic, preservative-free, additive-free, and sodium-free products. Our grinders contain only the purest, highest-quality chili peppers, dried, ground, lab-tested, and packaged with care. We realized that we don’t really communicate this story in any of our marketing materials, so we will do so moving forward.
- Capsaicin's health benefits are worth sharing. Each SpiceQuest kit includes an informative card detailing how capsaicin supports metabolic health, aids weight management, reduces inflammation, and boosts mood by releasing endorphins. Similar to the oranic/natural messaging, this is notably missing from our website. We’ll be adding this information shortly, so everyone can learn about the incredible potential of capsaicin.
- Be prepared to overdeliver. For the adventurous 20% who sampled the No. 10 Carolina Reaper, we had a special surprise – "The Number 11,” which we only intended to make available to true heat enthusiasts in the fall who subscribe to SpiceQuest Direct service (coming soon). But people loved it so much; we’ve decided to make this limited-edition grinder available immediately on our website in the ‘Solo Collection’ section of the store.
I want to give a very special shout-out to my wife, who helped make so much of this possible (especially helping me overcome so many challenges I faced during the 18 months it took to develop this idea), and to my kids, who I think helped make 50% of sales at booth, and to my friends, Jeremy, Erica, and especially Peter, who stood by my side all day long on Sunday to help make this event a success.
