Meet Jevon Crumley: The Passionate Grower Behind Our Frankenstein BBG Pepper

At SpiceQuest, we love working with extraordinary people, and Jevon Crumley is one of those individuals whose passion and dedication to growing superhot peppers is nothing short of inspiring. An Ohio native with a natural green thumb, Jevon discovered his love for growing some of the hottest and most intriguing chili peppers about five years ago—and he’s been hooked ever since.

Jevon’s journey into the world of superhots is rooted in a deep appreciation for the challenge and beauty these peppers present. “They take a bit of skill and patience to grow,” Jevon says, “but they are some of the coolest-looking fruits I have ever grown.” And indeed, the unique and fiery peppers he cultivates, like the Frankenstein BBG, are a testament to his dedication and expertise. It’s a labor of love that’s incredibly rewarding, especially when he gets to share his harvest with people across the country, from home cooks to hot sauce makers.

But Jevon isn’t just a master pepper grower—he’s also a successful thoroughbred racehorse trainer with a career spanning nearly 25 years. Having traveled the country, trained champions, and won over 700 races with earnings of over $8 million, Jevon has built a legacy in the world of horse racing. Yet, his heart has increasingly been pulled toward the joy and fulfillment of growing peppers. “I’ve been considering going all in on the growing and making that my full-time business,” he shares.

Every spring, Jevon sells hundreds of superhot seedlings, shipping them nationwide to fellow pepper enthusiasts. His garden is a place of constant evolution, where the hottest peppers meet nature’s unpredictability, often resulting in fascinating crossbreeds. Each growing season is an adventure, and the hard work he puts into cultivating these peppers pays off when customers rave about his products. “It’s a great feeling when people are happy with your peppers and seedlings,” Jevon says.
